Winter Moonrise by Abraham Hunter

Winter Moonrise by Abraham Hunter

Winter Moonrise AH Chromatics Joomla

From the Artist:

When I was a kid, my grandma taped a discovery channel documentary on wolves and we had it on VHS to watch when we were bored. To this day, when I think of wolves my mind goes back to winter days spent in that little home in Illinois watching those wolves on tv.

Wolves have so much personality and expression, that they make for fantastic painting subjects. I feel like they capture the spirit of the wild winter forests that I daydream about roaming someday when I’m older and have more time and a bigger travel budget ... haha. This wolf pack has been resting and as the big winter moon rises, they also rise, howling out to other members of the pack signaling to them that it’s time to play in the freshly fallen snow!

Artist Notes:

Come in from the cold, sit by the fire, speak of the victories and deliverance that came your way by the hand of God. When the bitter cold of life blows hard, there is a place to go where you can be warmed - together with your tribe - and the presence of God.

Mystic Falls III by Mark Keathley

Mysic Falls III MK 07578 1 Edit Flat Joomla

From the Artist:

One of my favorite things about a snowy day is when the wind has died down and the sun begins to shine in the silence. The blanket covering everything makes it soundless, quiet, and serene. It is a time to hear my thoughts, to reflect on what I think, what I want to do, and who I want to be. There is too much cold and snow to do anything else - so I watch and wait for the familiar sound of His voice, His promise of spring, and the life which is inevitable and just around the corner.

From the Artist:

A couple of weeks ago I painted a big black bear clumsily napping up in a tree. I liked the idea so much that I decided to paint him doing the same thing when he was a cub!

When I was a kid I spent countless hours daydreaming, usually about what to draw next or about fishing. I hope you enjoy this painting and it brings out the kid in you that likes to spend the day napping and daydreaming.

From the Artist:

I’ve been asked by a lot of friends and clients “so what’s your favorite thing to paint?”. It’s a hard question because almost everything inspires me. But sometimes I get a few free days to do what I want, and this painting is a result! I spent a lot of time in Illinois growing up. I spent so many days there chasing deer with my camera and hiking the hardwoods and fields, studying deer habitat. You can see how much I love doing that because of each meticulously rendered twig and branch in the forest, and each slightly differently colored leaf and the dozens of types of plants all mingled together in the November field. It’s therapeutic for me to sit and immerse myself in these details.

In this painting, a proud Whitetail buck is in the mating season. He has found a doe and her child from the year before and is courting the mother. In late fall, a buck will defend his mate at all costs and will be so busy he won’t even eat. In this scene, he sees you as you’ve stumbled upon these deer in a small opening in the woods. He stands regally in front of his companions, defending them from you and whatever else he thinks could be a threat. He’s a protector!
