Carriage Park by Mark Keathley
From the Artist:
In the middle of chaos and pressure, a person can find peace and calm by entering into their happy place. Often in the middle of all the stress of living in this world, I close my eyes and picture myself sitting on a rock in the forest where the light is streaming down through the leaves and glistening off a smooth section of a creek where there is just a small gurgle of water trickling by. I picture myself sitting with someone that loves me whom I love, and all seem to calm down. I often say a quick prayer of thanks for my “Daddy” being in control, knowing what is coming, and being big enough to handle it and take care of me. Calmness settles in, and I’m happy and peaceful again. I can do this anywhere – on a plane, at my kitchen window, or sitting in my studio. It brings peace in the middle of a storm of chaos. I imagine Frederick Olmsted had this in mind when he and the New York city planners set aside 788 acres of land in the 1850’s for what would become a magical escape from the noise and pace of a growing city. Among the many paths and trails through the park are more than a dozen different bridges that display architectural perfection on a grand scale, and Gapstow Bridge is one of my favorites. Nestled in the southwest corner near the pond in the corner of the park, the Plaza Hotel rises thru the trees on the right, as well as some of the other grand buildings of the turn of the century. These were the days when gargoyles and Gothic accents adorned elaborate buildings that were beautiful works of art. I chose to paint the city from a simpler time - before the rectangular glass and steel skyscrapers began to change the city to a more “modern” look. Several grand carriages will give you a ride through the park. We actually visited the city for my son’s 16th birthday in February right after a snowstorm blanketed the park with even more quietness. Enjoy the calm in “Carriage Park” and make it your place of peace in the middle of the chaos.

Curious Cub by Abraham Hunter
• SOLD OUT •
From the Artist:
Last year, I got some time off and made a visit to the Smoky Mountains. While I was there, I decided to head into Cades Cove to take some photos, find inspiration, and recharge. After hiking and driving all around the park, I finally found this little cub sitting under a tree just enjoying the day and curiously looking me over. I quickly snapped a few photos as reference for this painting. Then he climbed a tree and took a nap while his mom foraged for food nearby. It was such a special experience that I wanted to share it with you in this painting. This is one of my most detailed paintings. I really wanted it to feel as if you were there in the forest with him and enjoying the rebirth of spring while relaxing in the shade. I hope this little cub brightens up your day just like he did mine!

Bedtime Kisses by Mark Keathley
Artist Notes:
For many years now I have been the lone person (that I know of) who has not seen a bear in the mountains around Gatlinburg. It has become a joke amongst my friends because bears are seen so often there. Therefore, I depend on my photos from bears in captivity for my paintings. This is probably a good thing because I’m such a realist that I might not ever paint something as cute as “Bedtime Kisses.” Left up to my imagination, bears take on more of a storybook persona and less of a foraging wild thing. In this painting, I am appealing to our inner nature to nurture. Sometimes in the business of life, we forget what is important and choose to spend time on the urgent. I hope this scene reminds you of what is the most valuable of all – the people around you. So, please, step out of the urgent during your day and take time to spread the love with laughter, tender moments, and “Bedtime Kisses.”

Welcome Spring by Mark Keathley
Welcome Series
From the Artist:
The seasons of life ebb and flow in a way that teaches us to be patient and wait. Sometimes, we have lean – dry times and other times we have vibrant growing times. It doesn’t mean that something is wrong or that we have been forgotten, or that we are doing it all right and are the “blessed” ones. For the Lord rains down on the just and the unjust alike. He cares for everyone alike and he longs to see them find fullness and renewal in their lives. In Welcome Spring, I’ve depicted the exciting time of life when the fragrance of life is wonderful, too much to contain, and the beauty spills over for all to see. The excitement of new birth and buds awakens the senses, makes us feel alive and gives us the promise that the cold winters of our lives will not always be. There are such hope and expectation in the spring, and I hope this painting stirs up that longing in your heart to see things grow and blossom. Go ahead and plant the seeds of acceptance with your estranged son or wayward daughter; dig up the weeds of resentment and jealousy with someone you have grown to dislike, and replace them with the fragrant flowers of forgiveness and love. It is a time for renewal.

Nature's Harmony by Mark Keathley
Artist Notes:
I fell in love with the moss-covered rocks and fallen logs that surround the streams in the deep valleys of the Smoky Mountains. Tromping through the woods is very exciting to me. Every turn of the stream has a new vantage point that makes me go, “Wow!” I haven’t gotten to see any wild bears — I guess that is good — but I did find these in a nearby wildlife habitat. The old settlers’ cabin and split rail fence is still there today leftover from the days when the land was donated to the National Parks Service, and the last of the old-timers lived out their days scratching corn out of self-cleared meadows. The woods have re-invaded the farmland and only this small strip of land is left at this farm, but it made a beautiful location to paint. Every time I see such a spot, I wonder what kind of people could survive so isolated and alone. Then I remember they weren’t alone. Certainly, they had a large family, some unexpected visitors like the ones in this painting, and a confident belief in their God and His claim, “I will never leave you nor forsake you,” to take with them into the wilderness.
