From the Artist:

When I started this painting a while back, I was going to make it a somber piece about the Gatlinburg fires. Recently my girlfriend and I drove up the once charred hillsides, and I noticed lots of new wildflower growth, including some of these morning glories! This little cub probably wasn’t even born during the fires and the seeds of these morning glories had perhaps not yet settled in the ashy soil. That’s why I titled this piece “Hope For Tomorrow.”

Whenever things look bad, God always breathes new life into His creation! Whether it’s a cute cub or flowers and show their beauty faithfully each morning, He always reminds us that there is hope in Him!

From the Artist:

When I finished this painting and showed it to Whitney, the first thing she said was “double trouble!” And that’s how it came to be titled! These two little cubs have chased each other up a tree and are peeking back at you to see if they’re in trouble!

Before the Flood by Abraham Hunter

Before the Flood by Abraham Hunter

From the Artist:

A few years ago I painted all of the animals getting off Noah’s Ark and enjoying the dry land. I was and still am really proud of that first attempt, but it had a list of things that I wanted to capture better when I did another Noah’s Ark painting. In this prequel, I decided to have all the animals leaving their homes and obeying God’s command to go two by two into the Ark. With storm clouds beginning to obscure the sun, and the coming storm in the left of the painting, I attempted to capture the drama of those fleeting moments when all nature knew that it was time to get inside the safe place God designed before the massive flood and the destruction of life as they knew it. With one little stop at a small pond, they catch their reflections and take a drink. It will be the last time they will be on dry land for a long time. The next time they set foot back on the solid ground, the world would be different and they will begin to fill the earth again with life.

Temptation by Abraham Hunter

Temptation by Abraham Hunter

Temptation AH Chromatics Edit Flat Joomla

From the Artist:

I’ve been told that great art flows from great pain. I entered my studio one gloomy day and had been really getting in the mud battling a problem I wish I could say I’ve conquered... anxiety. A scripture I read in Hebrews came to my mind, which says Christ was tempted in all points like we are, yet without sin. It warmed my heart that everything I was facing, Christ already went through and overcame. His time in the wilderness quickly became my next painting!

I don’t have room to write the whole story but it’s in Matthew 4:1-11 and Luke 4:1-13. Jesus was tempted with hunger and illness from 40 days of fasting. He was tempted with doubts of if he was truly the Son of God. Tested on His knowledge of the scripture and tempted with every conceivable thing of wealth and glory on earth if He only bowed to Satan. In this painting, we see Christ high in the desert, with the stones in front of him tempting him to turn them into bread. We see the temple that was built in Jerusalem and all the kingdoms of the world behind him in the valley. In the dark tangled clouds of confusion, you can see the author of confusion himself, Satan, in the form of a dark cloud seeming to pass through Jesus’ mind, where so many of our hardest fought battles take place. But Jesus is the hero of the story and the inspiration for us all when we are in our wildernesses. Jesus just simply turns away from everything around him and looks up to the light of heaven.

When I apply this painting to myself, I see the stones as my temptations in life, biggest to smallest. The temple reminds me that man-made religion and religious law without the Spirit and a relationship with Christ is perhaps one of the most overlooked temptations to ensnare one’s life. And when I look at the riches and glory of the kingdoms of the earth, I am reminded that He is my provider and not by the power of my own hand do I prosper.

Artist Notes:

Creating an image that can capture the feelings I experience when I’m in the mountains is something I attempt to do over and over again. In truth, it can’t be captured. The sheer size and scope of the mountains can only be comprehended while standing in their midst.

Bonnie and I were hiking up in the Tetons a couple of years ago with Colter, and we took hundreds of photos trying to “get it all in,” but nothing seems to ever do it justice.  So, back in my studio, I stretch a larger than life canvas and close my eyes and picture what I felt and saw when I was there. Peeking at a few of those photos, I begin to create a design and arrangement that is what I wish I could find every time I am in the wilderness, and this time the pieces came together in a way that pleased me most. We chose to reproduce “Majestic Solitude” in two grandiose sizes so it would convey the spectacular scale of these creations by God - the Teton Mountains.  The mountains are viewed from the south - looking north from the Taggert Lake Trail area. I hope you get the feeling that I felt when I was there - standing on an edge of a cliff ... soaking in the glory of God and His creation.
