Amber by Jess Wathen

Amber by Jess Wathen

From the Artist:

Foxes are often seen as tricksters. The intelligence and craftiness of a trickster are often used to defy conventional behavior, question authority, and bring change.

Change can be difficult because the brain is hard-wired to do the same thing over and over. It can be painful to step out of your comfort zone and embrace change.

It is important to realize that life is an ever-evolving story, and the universe will bring opportunities in your life to allow you the chance to advance, move forward, and transform yourself and your life into something new and exciting. Be like the fox. Embrace these moments and open yourself to the possibilities.

From the Artist:

Life is a fragile thing as we were reminded in the Smoky Mountains when the wildfires came through. As spring begins to show the signs breaking through the blanket of winter, we can experience the newness and wonder of the emerging life. It is time to rejoice in the miracles around us and take comfort in the thought that out of hardship can come beauty.

PRINTABLE PDF - Dialogue with the Stars

From the Artist: This painting was inspired by the lyrics of "Dialogue with the Stars" by Vintersorg. My efforts to explain would seem paltry compared to the elegance of the lyrics so I will let them speak for me.

Ardent stars shine upon my face,
the monumental night sky reveals its torches.
Unaltered for eons, yet zestful they’re flaming
like ornamental diamonds.
In my telescopes focus, a striding light
conjure me fixedly.
Oh, what a colorful drama,
what a theatrical performance.

These myriads of stars
enchants me with their oddity.
At cosmos entrance hall,
where time and space units in a charade.
Under crimson flares I watch
the tempest of the universe.
In dark artistry,
I lionize the splendorous glare.

An unearthly voice of euphony
express itself in an ancient tongue.
Its elocution is based on silence,
so it pulsates through the five senses.
It’s like a poem of wisdom and wizardry
navigating through the world.
A legacy from nebulas,
an endless mystic conversation.

These myriads of stars
enchants me with their oddity.
At cosmos entrance hall,
where time and space units in a charade.
Under crimson flares I watch
the tempest of the universe.
In dark artistry,
I lionize the splendorous glare.

Now clouds gather at a distant skyline
to cover the firmament.
Rays are fading in a metamorphosis
of the blazing weave above.

These myriads of stars
enchants me with their oddity.
At cosmos entrance hall,
where time and space units in a charade.
Under crimson flares I watch
the tempest of the universe.
In dark artistry,
I lionize the splendorous glare.

26 years have passed since it first
called my name.
And when I’m dead, this piece of
jewelry will still remain.

–Vintersorg

"Every cloud has a silver lining." I suppose that may apply to any subject with a good backlight such as this fox. Foxes can be sneaky, mischievous creatures though they'll eventually come to light. Even the worst events or situations have some positive aspects and beauty. You should never feel hopeless because difficult times always lead to better days.

 From the Artist:

As a photorealist painter, I am dependent on finding accurate reference materials for each painting. It is not always easy, but I've found the National Archives to be a treasure trove - especially for early photos of Washington. I especially enjoyed working out how to feature the gas lights. Although the Capitol dome was lighted by electricity in 1919, the lamps outside were gas, giving the whole scene a misty, moody glow.
